Teide Hiking Excursion Participation Agreement

As a client, by signing this document, I agree to participate in the guided hiking excursion to Teide with the guide Julien Gautier, who is a licensed, accredited guide of the National Park, insured, and registered in active tourism. This contract is made to prevent, warn about the difficulty and danger of this route, and to raise awareness of the fact that this is a high-difficulty route that requires good physical condition, preparation, and an understanding of the associated risks.

1. Physical Condition and Health

  • I declare that I am in good physical condition, capable of  completing a high-mountain hike with physical demands.
  • I affirm that I am an athlete and have the necessary preparation to face the physical challenges of the excursion.
  • I confirm that I do not suffer from respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, or any other health issues that may interfere with mountain hiking activities.
  • I commit to following all instructions provided by the guide during the hike.

2. Participation Restrictions

  • Pregnant women will not be allowed to participate due to the physical demands of the hike and the conditions of the route.
  • Children under 12 years old will not be allowed to participate, as the route and the physical effort required are not suitable for their age and physical condition.
  • Participation is not recommended for individuals who may suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo, as the cable car ride may induce discomfort or fear due to the altitude and enclosed space.

3. Route Description

The excursion begins at Montaña Blanca and aims to reach the summit of Teide. The route is described as follows:

  • Total Distance: Approximately 10 km from Montaña Blanca to the summit.
  • Positive Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,400 meters from the starting point to the summit of  Teide.
  • Estimated Time to Ascend: On average, the hike to the summit takes between 6 and 7 hours, depending on the pace of each participant and weather conditions.
  • Estimated Time to Descend (if the cable car is closed): Between 3 and 4 hours of walking down, depending on the elevation change and terrain characteristics.

4. Additional Considerations

  • Weather and Gear: The weather on Teide can change rapidly, so it is recommended to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the mountain, bring water, sunscreen, and a hat.
  • Cable Car: If the cable car is closed, the descent will be done on foot, requiring additional physical effort.
  • Rules of the Teide National Park: All participants must adhere to the rules and regulations established by the Teide National Park, such as not littering, not disturbing the flora and fauna, and staying on authorized trails to protect the ecosystem.
  • Responsibility: Throughout the activity, the guide will ensure the safety and well-being of the group, but each participant is responsible for their own physical condition and following the provided instructions.

5. Waiver of Liability

  • By signing this document, I release Julien Gautier from any liability for accidents or incidents that may occur during the excursion, unless caused by direct negligence of the guide.
