Mandatory equipment for your hiking excursion on Mount Teide

  • At least 3 liters of water, especially in case the cable car is closed and we need to walk down (better if distributed in several bottles or a hydration pack). Due to the heat and dry air, it’s important to drink frequently to avoid altitude sickness.
  • Energy bars, nuts, and fresh fruit (bring plenty; to avoid altitude sickness, eat small amounts frequently).
  • A sandwich or similar for lunch.
  • Full sun protection:
    • Hat or cap
    • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • High-protection sunscreenComfortable and adequate backpack (minimum 20–25 L), with enough capacity to carry everything you need.
  • Rain and wind protection: a lightweight rain jacket.
  • Proper footwear: hiking boots with good ankle support and grippy soles.
  • Clothing for changing temperatures: an extra warm layer (fleece or light jacket).
  • Long pants: shorts are acceptable, but long pants should be carried as backup in your backpack.
  • Gloves, beanie, and neck gaiter for cold or high-altitude routes.
  • Emergency thermal blanket.
  • Headlamp with a fully charged battery (very useful if the hike takes longer than expected).
  • Personal identification: ID card or passport.
